After setting in the trial license in the installation process of confluence server 6.10.0, the process stopped with a 500 status error screen. (see HTTP Status 500 – Internal Server Error.pdf (123.7 KB)

Solution was to
- stop the confluence server on the command line
- delete the file ‘/var/atlassian/application-data/confluence/confluence.cfg.xml’
- start the confluence server again
- navigate to the base url and do the setup again
