Development License for testings

Hi everyone,

We are planning to migrate our outdated Jira v8 instance to a newer version. Before proceeding with the production migration, I want to set up a staging/test environment to perform dry runs and validation.

I understand that Atlassian requires a specific Developer License for test environments. Since I no longer have access to our original developer license key, could someone guide me on how to generate or retrieve a new one for our staging instance?

Any advice or best practices for this migration process would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the Atlassian developer community @anunazganun,

With the category, your tag, and mention of Jira v8, it’s clear you are talking about our on-premise offerings. Both Server and Data Center have reached end of life:

On March 30, 2026 at 23:59 PST, new customers will no longer be able to purchase new Data Center subscriptions or new Marketplace Data Center apps.

There are no newer versions that are currently supported; hence, no test or staging licenses are offered either. Of the options available, the only viable path for you would be migrate to Cloud:
