Does Jira Cloud have the option to act as an OAuth2 provider?

I have an external system which I’d like to integrate with Jira Cloud.

Does Jira Cloud have the option to act as an OAuth2 provider?

I know that OAuth1x is possible, but wondered whether OAuth2 is an option. I’m already aware that Atlassian Connect apps can use the OAuth 2.0 - JWT Bearer token authorization grant flow but wondered if this was possible for external apps .

Hi David. I think you’re out of luck there. OAuth 2.0 access tokens are available only by means of JWT token exchange, as far as I know.

Not at this time, no. But we are working on bringing a Three-Legged OAuth (3LO) to Jira Cloud. It’s currently listed as In Progress on the Jira Cloud Platform API - Public Roadmap

This work is also currently being worked on for Stride apps and is the foundation for Jira using it. It’s currently in its final stages of development and you can see that in the Atlassian platform for developers roadmap.

There are many teams working on 3LO and there will be a few releases and iterations before it becomes fully available in Jira Cloud.
