Is there a way to make a jira addon open in a new tab?

I’ve been looking through the documentation for the atlassian-connect,json file to try and find a way to make it open in a new tab, but I haven’t found anything. The link to our addon is on the project sidebar and users would like to have it open in a new tab when they click it.
