In the latest EAP release notes I’ve noticed a note about AMD and global variables

“You can either use the module, or stick to the global variable for now.”
Is there a plan to disable global variables completely?
If so, what t is the timeline for Jira Software (greenhopper) code?
We do use a lot of global variables and AMD may be a killer for our app
