New to the Marketplace — how did you get your first real users beyond friends/network?

Hi everyone,

I’m new to building on the Atlassian Marketplace — I’ve published a few apps for Jira Service Management (ticket routing/auto-assignment, approval automation, and an AI-based support insights tool), but so far installs are mostly from testing, not real users.

I’d love to learn from people who’ve actually gone through this. A few specific questions:

  1. When you launched your first app, what actually worked to get your first 10-20 real installs — was it Community posts, YouTube demos, paid ads, partner referrals, something else?
  2. How did you approach posting here without it feeling like an ad? Any format that worked well for you (tutorials, AMA-style, “we built X because Y”)?
  3. For apps with zero reviews yet — did you do anything specific to get your first few reviews, or did it happen naturally over time?
  4. Any channels you tried that didn’t work, that might save me some time?

Happy to share what I try and the results back here, in case it’s useful for other newcomers too. Thanks in advance for any pointers — really appreciate this community.
