REST API search - filter trashed content

This question is on the Confluence REST API /rest/api/search call.

Is there a way to get only current content in the search? I cannot find anything in any of the documentation on how to do this, and I have to filter out the trashed content manually from the results.

Personally I do not have a lot of experience of the search API. However I do know we have had some success using the relatively new CQL (Confluence Query Language) for getting specific content.

Have you had a look at that?

Unfortunately no, I am still filtering the results manually.
