Atlaskit : atlaskit.atlassian vs atlassian.design are both the same or not?

Hello all ! I recently got into atlassian connect app development and have recently (2 months) started using the atlaskit packages and atlaskit design.

What is the difference in the two , design vs atlaskit ? There seem to be many overlapping elements, but are there any plans to move one to another? Also will the libraries be supported for newer versions of react ? I seem to be stuck on react16 still and want to migrate to 17/18 now Thanks !

I love the components they have definitely made my life better, hoping to find some answers
