Call for clarification of Data Center EOL information in the public

I’d like Atlassian to clarify incorrect or imprecise communications regarding marketplace apps and the Data Center EOL.

For example, see the below entry in the licensing FAQ. Here it is stated that apps will not receive new features or improvements, implying that Atlassian intends to prevent marketplace partners from publishing app updates with critical security fixes or bug fixes. This is surely wrong (we have received no message that releases to DC apps will be blocked), and also sends the wrong signal to customers who may be worried about apps being unable to receive updates. Also, how in the world would we be able to comply with new breaking platform changes if not allowed to release new app versions?
Furthermore, it is also imprecise since it does not apply for Bitbucket DC.

How will the Data Center end of life and maintenance affect my Marketplace apps

As of December 16, 2025 at 23:59 PST, Data Center Marketplace apps will be in maintenance mode — they will not receive new features or improvements after this date. New Data Center apps will also not be accepted to the Atlassian Marketplace after this date.

Existing Atlassian Data Center customers will continue to be able to purchase new Data Center Marketplace apps, and license expansions until March 30, 2028 at 23:59 PST. If you’d like to purchase a new app for your Data Center product, you must do so before this date.

It is important to note that Atlassian cannot guarantee Marketplace Partners will continue to support their Data Center apps through March 2029.

Thanks and cheers!

In my opinion, this is a deliberate play on words to swiftly transition to Cloud

Yes, all partners will be able to update their applications (changes and bug fixes)

I’d say play on words is putting it nicely. More like disinformation, as this is deliberately giving an entirely wrong picture of the state of Data Center for the next 3 years. I am sure Atlassian’s customers would not appreciate being lied to. By the way @adam.labus, are you sure what you are referring to is official information? If so, what is the URL to the page that consists this information?

I confirm that, in this wording, it seems Atlassian is speaking in our name, when we clearly have no intention of being in maintenance mode.

Atlassian can provide a degraded experience to customers if they decide to ; We intend to satisfy customers wherever they are, 3 years on the Atlassian platform and then outside of the Atlassian platform if they choose to.

Please Atlassian fix your phrasing in public.

Here you will find official information for partners

@adam.labus This information is restricted to partners only and behind NDA, in other words not public information. This is why I really want Atlassian to fix the public facing information.
