Dashboard Filters EAP for Forge Dashboard Modules

Hello Developer Community! :waving_hand:

Following our recent GA of the dashboards:widget and dashboards:backgroundScript Forge modules as part of the upgraded Jira Dashboards, we are excited to open early access to our most requested feature, dashboards:filter Dashboard Filters for Forge Modules! :tada:

:magnifying_glass_tilted_left: What is the dashboard filters EAP?

Dashboard filters are critical for creating rich, interactive, and unified dashboard experiences. With this EAP, we are unlocking filter publishing.

Defining custom dashboard filters (filter publishing)

    • Instead of building standalone ‘controller’ or ‘filter’ widgets that take up grid space, apps can now define first-class filters in the dashboard filter bar.

    • Custom configuration in edit mode: Build rich filter configuration interfaces directly within the filter side-panel.

    • Native-feeling view mode: Render custom pills and interactive dropdown pickers directly in the dashboard filter row, respecting the dashboard’s ephemeral filtering lifecycle.

:light_bulb: Why this matters for your apps

  • Consistent UX: Integrates your custom filtering logic directly into the native dashboard layout rather than relying on clunky workaround gadgets.

  • Feature Parity & Beyond: Unlocks modern replacements for legacy gadget filtering and cross-gadget communication as you migrate apps away from jira:dashboardGadget.

  • Deep Interactivity: Ensures your third-party reporting widgets behave as first-class citizens alongside Atlassian’s native charts.

:hammer_and_wrench: How to Get Started in the EAP

Prerequisites

  • A cloud developer instance with the modern dashboards experience enabled.

  • The latest Forge CLI.

High-level manifest concept

Apps participating in the EAP can configure filter definitions and bridge listeners to interact with dashboard state:

modules:
dashboards:filter:
- key: custom-label-filter
title: Label Filter
description: Filter dashboard widgets by custom labels
resource: filterViewResource
edit:
resource: filterEditResource

(Detailed API references and sample code repositories shared in the EAP documentation.)

:memo: How to Join the EAP & Share Feedback

We are opening enrolment to all partners and developers building dashboard solutions:

  1. Sign Up: Fill out the google form with your site URL and app context.

  2. Engage & Give Feedback: We want to hear how the APIs feel, whether the bridge lifecycle fits your architecture, and what edge cases you encounter. Reply directly to this CDAC thread or flag issues through our dedicated partner channel!

Thank you for continuing to partner with us as we build the next generation of dashboard extensibility!
