Forge remote data residency provides you with the flexibility to help meet data residency requirements by pinning remote endpoints to specific regions. This capability, combined with the automatic support for Forge-hosted storage, can help you provide a more comprehensive data compliance solution.
With region-based URLs, you can help ensure in-scope End-User Data is stored and processed in the right locations, building customer trust.
This feature takes an important step toward enabling app migration from Connect to Forge by addressing some data residency requirements. By using realm pinning for remote endpoints, you can begin aligning your apps with compliance needs and support the transition to Forge. For more details about adopting Forge from Connect, see How to adopt Forge from Connect.
We are delivering Data Residency in two parts:
- Realm Pinning: Customers can pin their apps to the same region as their products.
- Realm Migrations: Enables migration of apps from one region to another.
Realm Pinning preview is now available.
During this preview, you will be able to use all Realm Pinning features in both testing and production environments with customers.
- Add regionURLs to your app manifest
- Add operations to your remotes to declare what the remote does with end-user-data
- Customers will now see the pinned status of their installed apps utilizing Forge remotes.
Utilise CLI manifest conversion tool
We have updated the Forge conversion CLI tool to include steps for adopting Forge Remote. The tool will now convert region URLs and prompt for remote operations. Additionally, if your descriptor includes support for Realm migrations, the tool will automatically create the relevant migrations module.
While the Realm migration feature is not being released just yet, these modules are designed to prepare your app for smooth integration when the feature becomes available. Although these modules are currently inactive, they position you to easily adopt Realm migration upon its release.

Upcoming Features
You can follow the Data Residency - Realm Pinning roadmap here.
In the coming week, we will be making changes to the data residency section of the privacy and security tab on the Marketplace. These changes will include:
- Improving the questionnaire to be more straightforward
- Adding in a required field to communicate any end-user data deemed out-of-scope for Data Residency.
Following Realm Pinning, we will concentrate on Realm Migrations for data residency. You can follow that roadmap item here.
