Expanding app assessments in Portfolio Insights

Hi everyone!

I’m Grazyna Kaszkur, Product Manager for Portfolio Insights, where I focus on Marketplace apps and app migrations. I’m excited to share that we’re expanding app assessment capabilities in Portfolio Insights.

We understand that apps are often one of the biggest challenges customers face during migrations - especially for those with large and complex data sets. With this expansion, our goal is to help customers more easily assess the complexity of their app landscape and plan migrations with greater confidence.

If you support customers with their migrations or build apps on the Marketplace, read on to learn how these updates can help you and your teams.

What is Portfolio Insights?

Portfolio Insights is a free cloud-based feature within Atlassian Administration that gives admins the ability to:

  • Plan smarter migrations. Identify which Data Center instances are ready for migration and which require cleanup. For instances needing improvement, you also get guided recommendations to address these gaps.

  • Optimize ahead of your migration. Get recommendations on how to keep your Jira and Confluence Data Center instances healthy and high-performing until you’re ready to migrate.

  • Visualize your Atlassian footprint. View your Jira and Confluence environments across Cloud and Data Center in one dashboard to take stock of your Atlassian footprint and plan your cloud migration with clarity.

What’s new?

Portfolio Insights currently assesses the cloud readiness of:

We’re now expanding app assessments to include all user-installed Marketplace apps within the Cloud readiness report for both Jira and Confluence.

When reviewing Marketplace apps in Portfolio Insights, admins will now see a familiar interface, similar to what’s available in our migration assistants, and gain access to:

  • A list of all user-installed Marketplace apps

  • Details on each app’s cloud availability and migration pathway

  • The option to indicate whether an app is needed in cloud, helping both your team and Atlassian’s migration teams better assess and plan for migration complexity.

Additionally, in the side panel, they’ll see an overview information about their apps, such as version available, Marketplace listing, or details of the cloud equivalent.

All of this information is based on existing resources provided by Marketplace partners. For details on what data we use, see Marketplace partners - how this affects you section below.

How the app assessment helps users decide which apps to migrate?

Deciding whether a Marketplace app is needed in cloud, and how it can be migrated, ultimately depends on each customer’s unique requirements. With our expanded app assessment, we aim to give customers the information they need as early as possible, so they can effectively work with Marketplace partners while preparing for migration.

For apps that aren’t available in cloud, or require extra support during migration, we provide additional resources in our app migration documentation:

When will the app assessment be available?

The feature will be rolled out between December 15 and 17, 2025. To access it, please update to your Jira or Confluence Cloud Migration Assistant to the latest version and run the assessment from Portfolio Insights.

Recommendations for 3 popular Marketplace apps

For three Marketplace apps - ScriptRunner, Xray, and Zephyr - we provide more personalized information by either comparing the user’s data against migration guardrails or offering recommendations on next steps.

This feature was developed in collaboration with the respective Marketplace partners and released as part of the Portfolio Insights GA in October 2025. We are now integrating this functionality with the expanded app assessment update.

Here’s an example from Xray:

We plan to include such details for more Marketplace apps in the future to better guide customers in their migration.

Increasing visibility into custom apps

Custom apps developed by users are also challenging for migrations, that’s why we wanted to make users aware of the custom apps they have. Our goal in Portfolio Insights is to not include any user-generated content, so here we only provide the number of custom apps with a way to review them in Data Center, plus recommendations on what to do.

For Marketplace partners - how this affects you

There is no action needed from you, but we wanted to explain the details of the information we show about your apps. In summary, it’s the same info you provide on Atlassian Marketplace or though the App migration platform used by our migration assistants.

Cloud availability

This column shows whether a Marketplace app has a cloud version available. If the value is Yes, it will include a hyperlink to the Marketplace listing.

Migration path

This column shows what migration pathway is available, with the following values:

  • Automated path

  • Manual

  • Install only

  • Upgrade app

  • Contact partner

  • No path

The migration pathways are specified by Marketplace partners and we re-use this data. If a pathway is available and has a link to Marketplace partner’s migration docs, we’ll provide the same link.

Overview information in the side panel

The general information in the side panel includes:

  • Current app version from Data Center

  • Latest version from Atlassian Marketplace

  • Links to Marketplace listing for details and feature differences

Portfolio Insights vs. migration assistants

The expanded app assessment works in a similar way to the current assessments in migration assistants. We’re now adding it earlier in the migration journey, following feedback from our users and to give our migration teams access to this data so they can better help users evaluate and run their migration.

We’ll also continue improving how these experiences work together, for example by allowing users to sync their decisions between Portfolio Insights and the migration assistant.

We’d love to hear your feedback!

If you have questions about this feature or would like to provide feedback or ideas on what to include in the future release to make app migrations easier for our customers, we’ve love to hear from you! Don’t hesitate to leave a comment below this post.

Best regards,

Grazyna Kaszkur
