Figma Design System - Legacy

Hi everyone :waving_hand:

It looks like the current library is marked as Legacy.
Are there any plans to release an updated version?

Cheers, and thanks a lot in advance!

Hi Atlassian!
Explored the file and stumbled accross:

Are you planning on giving marketplace partners access here?

Hey folks, Jesse here from the Atlassian Design System Team. Apologies for the lag between marking our existing libraries as legacy without providing access to the new libraries, but we’ve encountered some issues with Figma in our attempt to consolidate our new navigation components into the new ADS Components library.

We’re currently working with the Figma support team to address these issues so we can get them published to the community. We’ve held back publishing as we know the experience of dealing with Figma Community libraries is subpar from a consumer perspective as your local copies aren’t kept in sync with each subsequent version we publish. So instead of pushing out a version which would be updated shortly thereafter, we chose to hold off to prevent rework on your end.

We’re hoping to get these issues sorted in the next day, so I’ll follow up in this thread with the updated library links as soon as they’re published.

Thanks again for your patience!

Hi Jesse,

Thanks a lot for the update and for being transparent about the situation — really appreciate the effort! Looking forward to the updated library once it’s ready.

Cheers!

Hey Jesse,

thanks for Providing the files – somehow I cant get them into our Figma Team – is anyone else having problems with it?
Thanks for any help in advance
Best Christopher

@JesseBauer thanks a lot for the new library. We had some trouble importing it because we have no enterprise plan on Figma. But now it seems to work with a workaround of importing it partially with less var modes! Cheers!

Thank you for the updated libraries! I do love working with them already. As we are also on a Professional plan I had to delete some var modes but it will work perfectly for what I need. One question though, I cannot seem the use the icons in the file for, for example, replacing the icons inside a button. I need to detach en manually replace the icon, but cannot do it from within the component as it used to work. However, there’s a link in the file to a different Figma file for the iconography. I suspect the current icons in the buttons are linked to that file? Any chance you could also share that with us?

Also facing the same issue with icons in our shared team libraries. We’re on an Enterprise Figma plan but are unable to access the icons from the library. @JesseBauer can you give us a steer on how to access the icons in the shared library?

When looking in the main community file I see the icons are linking out to another file which it currently says we do not have access so I assume this is for internal Atlassian staff only?

Thanks in advance! :folded_hands:

If you would like to stick to your existing library and just update components changes - I recommend using branching system to update one component per branch  works great for us.

btw. variables licening in Figma is annoying but it is possible to rewrite variables to keep them with less than 4 modes

I copied the icon instances to a new file, detached them all, created a new component set and published that file as a new library which i connect now with my designfiles along side the ADS files. I know this is not optimal and i will keep an eye out for any changes, but now at least i can change the icons on buttons

Thanks for the reply! Yeah I had this initial thought, but then wanted to avoid the additional maintenance overhead. Maybe thats unavoidable for now until Atlassian publish their icon file. :grimacing:

Thank you anyway!
