Forge usage questions - how to decide app pricing based?

Hello,

I have few fundamental questions related to Forge usage.

The app pricing is based on users but if I understand correctly the usage - compute, storage etc will contribute towards to usage. In this case how do we set the pricing of the app?

Let us say a simple app for 20 users cost the client USD 100 but the vendor (us) are charged USD 120 based on the usage. We cannot control how even a small instance using our app will used. For instance if the app is storing data based on number of issues (which we cannot control) then it will increase the bill for the vendor.

Any suggestions?

Also another question related to billing - if we are developing an app without deploying it to production - will that count towards the usage?

Hi @ravisagar ,

As of today, per user pricing is the only pricing model available. Other options were discussed in RFC-60, but none of those has landed yet.

If you are planning to launch a Forge app on the marketplace, you should be aware of the potential infrastructure costs and price or budget accordingly. While this is very visible with Forge and its FaaS architecture, the general concept is not entirely new – you should plan your pricing in such a way that it will at the very least cover the expected infrastructure cost.

Someone from Atlassian will be better suited to answer your last question, but I fully expect that we would be charged for an app that only is deployed to dev and still exceeds the platform limits. Not that I believe we would ever reach those limits purely during development.

Thanks for your reply. Appreciate the details shared.
