We were evaluating connect vs forge for an app to be developed for Jira. Wanted to get a bit of clarification on this.
Does this hosting need to be done by the developers or can it be done/managed by the end user as well who wanna use the app?

Connect apps must be hosted by you, the developer/vendor.
Forge apps are hosted by Atlassian.
I reccommend Virtual Private Server insted Dedicated Server. Dedcated is real iron and it’s hard disks can go broken any time.
Please note that the sunsetting of Connect has been announced and that it will reach end of support by July 2026. It is recommended to start planning your migration to Forge instead of spending much time on assessing Connect hosting options.
God to know. My Timesheet for Jira is just Connect App and makes now 375 USD in month by one client thats why that customer was used my App free with multible free up to 10 users licences with same email account and then I made phone call to my frind what to do because I pay 190 € per user per month from VPS and get 5 USD per month so I set price to non free and raised pricde to 8.90 USD per month adn then they canceled other acoounts and took only one account and delivered their emplyees to use only that one account with 51 users.
