How will a realm migration affect our Connect app

We have a Connect app. It doesn’t have data residency support yet so no matter where the custom Jira instance is, our service is served from a single location.

A customer is having his Jira Cloud instance migrated by Atlassian from one region to another. Our app is installed on this instance. We did not do anything specific in our app to handle such a migration and I am not sure if we were expected to.

How will this affect our app installation? Will there be an uninstall/reinstall? Will the customer’s client_key change? Should they expect any data loss?

Hi @emre.toptanci ,

Let me answer your questions here:

  • How will this affect our app installation? There will not be any affect on the app when a customer migrates to a different region.
  • Will there be an uninstall/reinstall? The app will not require an uninstall/reinstall neither there will be any lifecycle webhook being sent.
  • Will the customer’s client_key change? No, the client_key remains the same.
  • Should they expect any data loss? No data loss is expected.

You are most likely across this but this is the thread where we introduced the availability of the Data Residency feature for Connect Apps, the possibility to migrate data from one realm to another is still not available and there is an older thread with the ideas that the team has been exploring.

Hope this helps,
Caterina
