Is Confluence Data Center a viable choice for plugin development?

Hi @GerbenWierda ,

You are correct that Cloud (Connect and Forge) vs Data Center development is very different - different tools, languages, APIs, SDKs, and a different deployment model (iframes + externally partner hosted, vs in-situ/in-process JAR files).

Regarding your ‘neglected/deprecated’ comment (and also in line with your other thread about DC development on macOS), I can’t help but agree with you.

Almost 1 year ago, we asked about getting a new version of the SDK; one that supported a more recent version of Maven and AMPS.

The response from Atlassian directed our attention to the ticket ATLASSDK-227, which has been sitting at “In Progress” now since May 2022.

This means that anyone developing DC apps in the last 2 years (since April 2021) has not seen a single update to the SDK in all that time (8.2.7 is still the most recent version).

So yes, as a DC developer, it does often feel like we are neglected by Atlassian.
