REST API Version Compatibility in Confluence Plugin (Failure on 2.0 and 3.0)

I am experiencing a compatibility issue with my Atlassian Confluence plugin’s REST API versioning. The REST module is defined in atlassian-plugin.xml as follows:

</rest>

When the version attribute is set to 1.0 (or any 1.x minor increment such as 1.1 or 1.2), the plugin loads and functions correctly.

However, when I attempt to upgrade the version to 2.0 or 3.0, the plugin either:

  • Fails to start or

  • The REST endpoint returns a “Not Found” error when accessed.

This indicates that Confluence may not recognize or support version="2.0" or version="3.0" in plugin REST module definitions.

Question:

  • Does the Confluence REST framework actually support 2.0 and 3.0 as valid versions in atlassian-plugin.xml?

  • Or are plugins restricted to the 1.x REST API framework, with 2.0/3.0 reserved for Atlassian’s internal/external REST API evolution only?
