Hello Forge Community!
I am Adithya, the PM for Sandboxes. I am excited to share an update regarding how billing for Forge usage will work when apps are tested in sandboxes. Effective 4 Apr 2026, for each site where your app is installed, Forge usage on up to the first five sandboxes associated with that site is exempt from billing. That means, usage resulting from customers testing your app in sandboxes will not appear on your monthly Forge bill. This change is intended to make it easier for customers to test and validate Forge apps in sandbox environments without incurring additional charges to the app developer.
As a reminder, sandboxes are intended to be used solely for testing and validation purposes - we are taking measures to detect anomalous sandbox traffic patterns, and may suspend, restrict, or throttle usage if we detect misuse.
Happy testing!
Note: You might still see sandbox usage on your developer console - we are actively working on removing this to ensure that the dev console is consistent with your bill.
FAQs:
- Does this policy apply to both Marketplace apps and private apps?
Yes. Currently this is applicable to both private apps as well as marketplace apps. However, this may change in the future
- Why does the policy apply to 5 sandboxes associated with a site?
Any Marketplace app installed on a production site can be installed for free on up to 5 sandboxes associated with that site. A customer must purchase the app to install it on a 6th sandbox. Thus, as a partner, you will be charged for Forge consumption on sandboxes only if the customer has purchased that app on the sandbox.
For private apps - we believe that five sandboxes should provide sufficient environments for pre-production testing.
- Does this policy apply to both free and paid Marketplace apps?
Yes, this policy is applicable to both free and paid Marketplace apps
- Will this policy change?
As we evolve on our journey to enable you to effectively leverage our tools to solve critical problems, we will periodically revisit this decision, and we will communicate at least 3 months in advance if there is a change to this policy.
