Using Jira MCP? The PM lead wants your feedback

I am the PM lead for Jira MCP within the Atlassian Rovo MCP server. We have shipped a lot in the last few months and have more landing soon, but the sharpest signal on what to build next comes from the people actually using it.

If you use Jira MCP today, or are planning to, I would love 30 minutes or less or more to hear:

  • What is missing or frustrating

I’m not a power user, and so I don’t think I have 30 minutes’ worth of feedback. But here’s 1 minute of feedback.

What’s working well: General querying – Given sufficient instructions about the Jira configurations, the LLMs seem to be able to find enough of the right information in Jira to generate strong context for the LLM.

Frustrations:

  • Creating Jira links: In my experience, it is really hard to provide good enough instructions to reliably create links between Jira issues through the MCP. The biggest challenge is reliably creating links in the right direction.
  • Support for custom fields: It seems a custom field map is a necessary part of the instructions. Otherwise, it’s hit or miss whether the expected custom field data is found. Not a big deal, but could be improved.

A significant source of frustration for me is the MCP server disconnects frequently when using Claude Code Desktop, requiring me to disconnect and reconnect the connector.

It would be great if it supports managing automation flows. For now, I’m using the /rule REST endpoints.

Hey @AaronMorris1 - We recently rolled out support for creating jira links as well as the support for custom fields problem that you raised. Atlassian Rovo MCP now supports both. Hey @YCLianServiceRocket - What are your most frequently used rules from the /rule endpoints? This will help us create a priority order of the asks.
