Will existing DC customers still be able to buy DC apps?

Hi,

We are currently seeing an uptick in evaluations for DC apps, which is surprising given the DC end of life announcement. Some of these evaluations will not make it past the March 30, 2026 deadline for new sales.

There seems to be some confusion with customers because they believe that existing customers should still be able to buy new licenses for apps after this deadline.

As a vendor, I cannot agree more. I understand Atlassian does not want to have new DC customers and that she will stop selling new DC licenses for the host products, but it seems a bit rigid to tell existing customers that they can’t buy new app licenses for 3 more years while they are planning their migration to cloud. Many apps can be migrated along.

Can Atlassian please reconsider this?

Isn’t it “No new apps on new customers”, i.e. customers can buy a new Confluence DC, but they won’t be able to install apps at all?

If that means customers cannot buy new apps at all, then yes, Atlassian is taking the money but artificially preventing vendors from making theirs, plus limiting the potential of those customers purchasing those apps on the Cloud in the future.

Since the EOL does not yet affect Bitbucket at this point in time, has there been any statement on sales of Bitbucket DC Marketplace Apps?

The ‘Affected products’ expander says

  • Atlassian Marketplace (third-party) apps for affected Data Center products

Then there’s a paragraph about BB DC being not affected and switching to hybrid license instead.

It would be great if the BB DC paragraph would mention that 3rd party BB DC apps will follow the same pattern.

@aragot I hope so!

It’s just that the phrasing in the blog post is a bit confusing to me:

  • March 30, 2026: Sales of new Data Center subscriptions and Marketplace apps will end for new customers.

Does this mean that new customers cannot purchase a DC license with marketplace apps in a single transaction? If so, it seems a bit redundant to also mention marketplace apps, because there is no sense to buy Marketplace apps without a DC license.

There is no scenario in which a new customer would only buy a Marketplace app (without DC subscription).

Which is why one could also read this as Sales of DC subscriptions ends for new customers and Sales of Marketplace apps ends for new customers.

I think it would be good for Atlassian to clarify this

Ok, so apparently there is more information on the Partner Portal. I’m going to share it here, even if that might mean breaking NDA, because the wording is different and we need further clarification:

As of March 30, 2026 at 23:59 PT, new customers can no longer purchase or request quotes for impacted Data Center products or associated marketplace app licenses. New customers are net new organizations who have never owned any paid data center seats before March 30, 2026.

It seems that this implies that existing customer will still be able to purchase Marketplace apps. In addition, they can also still self-generate Marketplace app evaluations, which will no longer be possible for Atlassian-owned DC products:

As of March 30, 2026, external parties (customers and partners) can no longer self-generate data center product trials license keys for Atlassian-owned apps (no change for the 3rd party marketplace apps).

@remie that’s also me understanding, when I read:

(partners can still renew and expand existing DC customers until March 30, 2028)
