Listing Forge apps on Marketplace - Early Access Program (EAP)

Hi everyone,

We’re excited to announce that Forge apps can now be listed on Marketplace through an Early Access Program (EAP). This program allows selected Marketplace Partners to list Forge apps (free and paid) on the Atlassian Marketplace.

Forge apps are easier to build and manage, as you can rely on Atlassian’s hosted compute and storage, which we’ve invested in making secure and reliable.

We’ve used your invaluable feedback to iterate and improve the platform, and recently brought Forge into general availability. In the next step of this exciting journey, Forge apps are now ready to be installed by users on the Atlassian Marketplace.

Interested in joining the EAP?

This program gives you a chance to list Forge apps on the Atlassian Marketplace, while providing us critical feedback that will help us to iterate upon and improve your Marketplace experience as a developer.

Learn more about listing your Forge app on Marketplace, and how to submit a Forge app for approval in the program.

EAP participants will be added to a private category on the developer community, which is the primary channel for feedback from EAP participants.

By signing up for this Early Access Program (EAP), you acknowledge the Atlassian Privacy Policy and that use of the EAP products is governed by the Atlassian Cloud Terms of Service (“TOS”). The EAP products are considered “Beta Versions”, as set forth in Section 14 of the TOS and are subject to applicable terms, conditions, and disclaimers.

What’s next

Although not all use cases are currently addressed (see EAP limitations), we’re working to expand the use cases and types of Forge apps supported throughout the EAP. As we look to further enhance Forge apps on the Atlassian Marketplace, we’re working on observability and additional functionality for Forge apps . See “what’s next” in this post. Future considerations include the need for faster app approvals, better Marketplace support through tools, and access to data insights on app performance, benchmarking, and usage.

Cross-product apps, i.e. single apps installable across multiple products, will not be available in the near future – but they’re part of the future that we envision for our cloud ecosystem. We will share updates with the developer community as we prioritize additional updates to the Atlassian Marketplace roadmap.

If you have additional feedback, please post a comment below.

Best,
The Marketplace team

Great news, and thanks for the detailed guidance - could you please clarify one of the EAP limitations:

Users won’t be able to upgrade apps, so when you release a new version, users must uninstall and reinstall the app to receive the new version. This is a temporary limitation that we’re working to resolve.

Does this literally apply only to ‘upgrades’, i.e. changes in scope etc. that require us to Upgrade the app via forge install --upgrade, or does this actually affect any regular deployment via forge deploy, even just a bug fix for example?

Cheers,
Steffen

The former. In general, changes made via forge deploy will be applied immediately, but anything that needs approval from the customer admin (like scope changes or payment model changes) currently requires that uninstall+reinstall step.
